Business and Renewable Energy in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, UK

Over the last five years the Highlands and Islands has seen an increasing number of locally-based businesses diversifying to service the growing renewable energy sector. The area has also benefited from investment by companies moving into the area. For example, Vestas Celtic wind has established a tower manufacturing and turbine assembly plant in Argyll.

The particular strengths of the existing renewable energy companies in the Highlands and Islands is their diversity which extends across the entire gamut from research and development, testing, manufacture, generation and distribution and support services. A true end-to-end chain of complementary companies that can conceive, devise, test, manufacture, install, operate and support renewable energy technology from theory to full-scale commercial implementation.
